Dental Implant vs crown & root canal treatment?

The dentist told me crown maybe the way to go if I want strength for my broken teeth. Then he mentioned that because I've less teeth structure drilling, vibration may sometime cause root canal then I may need root canal treatment. And I asked him what he will know then he said there're serious of test, like cold sensitive test, and some other test that I forgot.. Is he rite and honest?





Also earlier someone suggested that I check with an expert about evaulation on dental implant since it last 30+ years or a lifetime I guess? Because in each or 5 or 10 years then I will need another root canal and cap maybe. So maybe it's better to do some sophiscated way to relief worry about the future.





Also the teeth which is broken has misalignment and those the rod which goes to the bone has to follow the same root direction of my teeth? Because my teeth sticks out a little and moved to the rite. Can the dentist put the rod in direction that will not misalign and same direction as other teeth?

I would rather go with root canal and try to have my toot saved then with the implant! If the root canals didn't worth try dentist wouldn't do them! They know the best, they study years! I had simillar problem my dentist had to do couple of test to find out if i need root canal treatment or not and it i ended up having on one of my molar and the other one was fine! If you aren't sure go to the different dentist for second, maybe first opinion! Good Luck
Reply:I'm not sure about the different types of dental procedures, but my mom's dentist told her that a root canal is not worth the money because it weakens the tooth and you end up losing it sooner anyway.
Reply:implants are good but they need a long period of time to do it , involves 6 to 12 months , depends on each person , and oral health( im saying that because with periodontal disease - gums recesion , involves another procedures , and of course more time to heal and after go with the oral surgery for implants.)


Implants are good procedures last for life but still needs a good helath care , expensive still , unfortunately


Crowns are best for cracked teeth , and teeth they are been treated with root canal to expends tooth life and strength, as soon you have done a root canal on your tooth become possible to loose it in few years because its not alive anymore , breaking more easy , so that's why the dentist recommend a crown on top of the tooth , last for at least 15 -20 years with a very strict oral hygiene,


For a tooth that is cracked , means that the tooth its still alive but needs a crown to prevent inflamation and you will end up extracting it , crown will hold the tooth together for a long period of time .
Reply:I think basically what your dentist was trying to tell you is that sometimes when your teeth have damage, the nerve may become disrupted. Once a nerve is disrupted, it's chances of dying are greater. A dentist can use the cold sensor to test the tooth and determine if the nerve is alive or dead. After the nerve dies, the tooth dies. Once it's dead, it weakens and is more likely to break. If the dead nerve remains, it could become infected (abscessed). A root canal removes the dead nerve. To prevent the tooth from breaking, you would need a crown. Crowns and root canals are pricey but not near as much as a dental implant. If you can afford the implant, it's better. Most people that pay out of pocket can't always afford implants so they opt for a root canal and crown. I have 2 crowns and they are great and well worth the money we spent.
Reply:I would do what your dentist has recommend for you to do. He has presented a wonderful treatment plan. When you get a crown done, there is always a chance for a root canal depending on how much decay is on the tooth. Your doctor will be able to find this out as he cleans away the decay from your tooth. If you need a root canal, the dentist will clean away the pulp (blood vessels and nerves) from the tooth. Once you have a root canal, you CANNOT receive another root canal on the same tooth. Do what the doctor tells you to do and you will fix your teeth.





Implants can be a great thing or a bad thing, depending on the situation. Implants need twice as much care as regular teeth and they have a higher chance for failure. I would be wary of recommending removing a usable tooth to put an implant in. BUT, if you don't have a tooth, then they are great. They can last a long time, but if you don't take care of them, they won't last as long as the tooth in your mouth.





Also, if you take care of your teeth, most of the time, root canals are worth the money. That is why dentists do them. Any dentist who says that root canals are never a good option is wrong. If they weren't good for you, dentists would not be able to perform the procedures.
Reply:You have been presented very good suggestions above. Since you are also considering the option of dental implants means you can afford it, and it is a qualified choice. The risks involved in any treatment are always present. Not all dentists are so bad for you to form such a notion.





First of all consider the treatment that allows you to hold your original tooth. You may opt for crown for your broken tooth. If the dentist finds it necessary to have root canal and post and core done, then do it. With good oral care these should last 15-20 years. If you have heard stories about their failure, then implants also play their game in the same arena. If you feel strongly about dental implants (I don't understand what is your idea about sophistication), you may have to get the thickness of your jawbone checked (x-ray). If bone density is less, you may need bone graft to enhance your 'sophistication'. Good luck.
