Can I get a dental implant and use my existing crown?

I have crowns on my two front teeth that I am very happy with. My teeth are root canaled and there is not really much left of them. I have posts under the crowns to help secure them. My problem is that one of the crowns keeps coming loose (I've had it re-cemented but it keeps happening). I feel my best option would be to get an implant on the loose tooth/crown. My question is, can I get the implant and use my current crown or do I have to have a new prosthetic made?

Can I get a dental implant and use my existing crown?
No. Crowns cannot become implants. It takes a special implant to work with the post they insert into your gum/bone. The dentist has to remove the tooth completely. And the post you have in there now.

About $2,000 a tooth. I have 2 of them. They're great.
Reply:i wouldn't recommend an implant. they are very costly and surgery is required. i think your crowns keep coming off because there is not enough base material for the crown to hold onto. what your dentist might need to do is place something called build-up material around the tooth so it is more sturdy to hold a crown. if the crown is cemented properly, it shouldn't be falling off. otherwise, get a new dentist. but not an implant.
