Is the $800 your out-of-pocket expenses for the crowns in addition to the insurance payments?
Ask them to submit a pre-treatment estimate before you have the work done, so you'll know approximately how much you'll be responsible for. Also, don't forget that you have an annual maximum that will be paid by your insurance company, so you if you need a few crowns done, you may want to have a couple done this year and then a couple done in '09.

Reply:That's a good price. Some crowns are $1,200.
Reply:I think you did well at $800. I had to have 7 crowns and they were $1200 each!! Thank goodness for dental health insurance!!

Reply:Sounds about right. Mine was around $ 700. That was with insurance though.
Reply:I don't know what the avg. cost is for a dental crown, but I know that my Dentist charges about 800 as well. Thankfully Tricare Dental Insurance is covering half of it....gah....
Also, if you have dental insurance, check to see if your insurer has a predetermination process. Usually that entails the dentist telling the insurance company exactly what will be happening and the insurnace company in turn tells you what portion of that they will cover.
Reply:I agree with R T, I came across the other day to this site dental vacations to Mexico, great prices, you basically get a free vacation for the same price you will pay at home and get to go to a sunny destination
