Tooth Crown following Root Canal?

I just had a root canal. Now I need a crown. I am being quoted anywhere from $750 - $1050 to have the crown done. I do have dental insurance but for this procedure I have to wait until Nov 1, 2008 for it to be covered.

Any advice? Could I wait a year? What would it cost to have done at a dental college? I really can't afford to have it done now but I don't want it to cost $$$ later.

Tooth Crown following Root Canal?
Yes, tooth needs a crown - ASAP!!!

If you wait you run the risk of the tooth fracturing and then it may need to be extracted. You've done the right thing to handle the problem to this point - finish it.

It will cost you more in the long run if something happens and who said your insurance will cover it at that point in time (pre-existing condition clause.)
Reply:You should really sit down and discuss all these questions with a Dentist. They are completely understandable reservations and need to be answered by someone who knows the ramifications of waiting and can explain the ins and outs to you thoroughly.

An expert in dentisty is your best bet for consultation about expensive dental work not folks here on a posting board in Yahoo.
Reply:If you are near A dental school %26amp; have plenty of time , it will be fine as the work is checked every step of the way!! In the office I can do a crown in a little more than an hour total time 2 appt. You will spend several hrs at the school. The cost will be minimal. Dr Walker
Reply:Another option would be to have a provisional (temporary) crown made in the meantime... you may need to have it recemented every now and then, but it's something to consider.... besides, teeth that have had root canal treatment need time for internal healing.... usually 3 weeks is recommended (by the endodontist we refer to).

Best of luck to you~
