For those who work in a dental related setting, can you give me some profitable advice please?

Hello, I am 20 years old, a male, and I am a pre-dental student at a four-year university. I am blessed with skilled hands, and being able to be precise with any size of art/structure I like to work on in my spare time as a hobby. I really love dentistry, and I was wanting to start working for a dental laboratory, executing with crowns, molds, ex cetera....What are my chances of receiving on-the-job training? I am mature for my age by the way. Also, if available, could you please give me some advice on what to say/how to approach the owner of the dental laboratory in getting hired? Could I simply just come out and ask "Hi, I am ____, I'm a pre-dent studnet at ____, could I shadow and receive on the job training and eventually work part-time as a dental technician?"

I work in a lab myself. I dont think you would have a problem.. Small labs would probably love to have some extra hands around but cant start off paying alot. In big labs Im sure there are positions for you to start off in to learn some basics and move up from there. I went to lab school but couldve learned by working without it. Feel free to call labs, just sound willing to do what is accomadating for them, and tell them your interested in shadowing or even a position. You could even ask for their email and discuss things with them further that way. Good luck, sounds like a promising future is ahead of you. If you really are artsy and good with your hands you will like crown and bridge!
Reply:There are labs out there that do on the job training and only hire that way. They like to train you their way and since you wouldn't have any previous experience..they'd probably love to have you. You should look up some of the dental labs in your area and start sending out resumes or give them a call. Since you're pre-dental, you might even be abe to get some names and numbers from the directors or professors of the dental program.
