alright, i see there are many similiar questions here about caps, but this one is unique and will blow the others out of the water. i will make this quite simple:did you find out you had a cavity through the dentist's x-ray, and when he scheduled you to come back for a cap after you were told, did you by some chance avoid this fate by elminating the cavity?scott

Doubtful.
I have seen small cavities (not even 1/2 way thru the enamel) heal IF the person brushes %26amp; FLOSSES EVERY DAY. Flouride rinse helps to. It takes several months though.
If the DDS recomended a crown, that should mean the tooth is pretty broken down.
